Continuing its sustained campaign against narcotics and substance abuse, Doda Police on Sunday arrested another drug peddler and recovered a charas-like substance weighing approximately 100–110 grams, reaffirming its commitment to a drug-free district.
According to Police Media Cell, Doda, a police party from Police Station Doda, led by Sub-Inspector Mushtaq Ahmed, was conducting routine naka checking at Ganpat Bridge, Pul Doda. During the operation, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK-02BE-7828, travelling from Thathri towards Doda town, was intercepted. The rider allegedly attempted to evade the checkpoint but was swiftly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
A thorough search led to the recovery of a black polythene bag containing a charas-like substance weighing approximately 100–110 grams. The accused has been identified as Shoket Ali, son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Amrit Garh, Chiralla, Tehsil Chiralla, District Doda.
Subsequently, FIR No. 280/2025 under Sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Doda, and further investigation is underway. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Sandeep Mehta, DySP Headquarters Doda Krishan Raj, and SHO Police Station Doda Parvaiz Khanday.
Sharing year-wise enforcement details, the Senior Superintendent of Police stated that during 2025, District Doda has witnessed robust action against narcotics, with 24 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act against 40 individuals. The recoveries include approximately one kilogram of charas, 127 grams of chitta, around 1.3 kilograms of ganja-like substance, and 184 capsules. The estimated international market value of the seized contraband stands at about ₹14.50 lakh.
In a significant step to dismantle the financial backbone of drug trafficking, the police have also attached property belonging to one drug peddler—a double-storey house valued at approximately ₹45.32 lakh—under relevant legal provisions.
Appealing to the public, the SSP urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactively share information related to drug trafficking, illegal sale, or substance abuse. He reiterated that District Police Doda, under his supervision, will continue its relentless drive to eradicate the menace of drugs and safeguard the youth and society at large
