In a significant crackdown on illegal arms, Doda Police on Wednesday reported the recovery of an unauthorized firearm along with live ammunition during a search operation in the Gandoh area of Doda district.
The operation was conducted on March 17, 2026, under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS). A joint team comprising officials from Police Station Gandoh, led by SP Operations Doda and SDPO Gandoh, along with personnel from the Indian Army, carried out a coordinated search in the Samaie area of Tehsil Gandoh.
During the operation, the team searched the residence of Shoket Ali, son of Alaf Din, a resident of Samaie. The search resulted in the recovery of one illegal desi gun (Topidar) along with six live cartridges.
Upon questioning, the individual failed to produce any valid license for the weapon and could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding its possession.
Subsequently, a case FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Gandoh, and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Police officials stated that such operations will continue to curb the presence of illegal weapons and ensure public safety in the region.
