Indian Army builds Bailey bridge in record 2 days time to restore connectivity in Kishtwar.
Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir, August 17, 2025
In a remarkable display of efficiency and commitment, the Indian Army has restored vital connectivity to the cloudburst-hit region of Chishoti in Kishtwar district by constructing a temporary Bailey bridge over the Chishoti Nalla within just two days.
The devastating cloudburst in Chishoti village of Paddar had left several communities cut off, complicating both rescue operations and the delivery of essential supplies. The 17 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), responding swiftly to the crisis, undertook the challenge of bridge construction under adverse terrain and weather conditions.
The Army’s prompt action has enabled the smooth movement of people, rescue teams, and relief material, including medical supplies, to the affected areas. The Bailey bridge is also playing a critical role in ensuring that essential services reach those who were left isolated by the disaster.
Local residents and officials have lauded the Army’s intervention, describing it as a lifeline in a time of acute distress. “The Army has once again shown that it stands with the people in times of crisis,” said a senior district official, adding that the bridge has significantly improved the pace of relief operations.
The construction effort, executed by the 17 RR unit, stands as a testament to the Army’s engineering capabilities and its ethos of “Service Before Self.”
The Bailey bridge not only restores connectivity but also symbolizes resilience and solidarity at a time when the region continues to grapple with the aftermath of the natural calamity.
