The Jammu and Kashmir Police have foiled a suspected terror conspiracy with the arrest of Mohammad Sajid (19), a resident of Reasi district, from the Bathindi area of Jammu. Officials said the accused, who was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), was allegedly being radicalised for a possible suicide attack in the region.
According to security sources, Sajid had been living in Bathindi for some time and came under the scanner following intelligence inputs regarding his suspected links with a cross-border terror network. Acting on these inputs, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Police Component Jammu apprehended him on November 26, thereby preventing the plan from progressing further.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused was in contact with several individuals located in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and outside the Union Territory. These communications, carried out through encrypted platforms and social media applications, were allegedly part of a wider network operating under the direction of handlers based across the border.
The case was initially registered as FIR No. 331/2025 at Police Station Bahu Fort under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In view of the gravity of the matter, the investigation has since been transferred to a Deputy Superintendent of Police-led Special Operation Group (SOG) team. Provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have also been invoked to facilitate a deeper probe.
Officials said the ongoing investigation is focused on tracing the broader network, examining digital communication trails, and identifying other individuals who may be linked to the suspected conspiracy. Security agencies emphasised that sustained intelligence-led monitoring and timely action were key to averting a potentially serious security incident.
