Schools in Jammu Division to Remain Closed Till Tuesday, August 19, Amid Inclement Weather
Jammu, August 18:
The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) on Monday ordered the closure of all government and private schools across the Jammu Division till Tuesday, August 19, citing inclement weather and continuous rainfall.
According to the official order (No: DSEJ/Gen/43555-85), the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students in view of the deteriorating weather conditions.
The directive comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a series of weather-related calamities. On August 14, a devastating cloudburst in Chashoti village of Kishtwar district claimed several lives and caused widespread destruction, cutting off essential connectivity in the region. The Army later constructed a Bailey bridge over the Chishoti Nalla within two days to restore movement for locals.
Similarly, in Kathua district, flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall inundated low-lying areas, leaving families displaced and prompting large-scale relief and rescue operations. The administration is still grappling with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
Officials said that the precautionary closure of schools in Jammu Division is aimed at preventing any untoward incident during this period of heightened weather risk. The order has been circulated to Deputy Commissioners, Chief Education Officers, and other concerned authorities for immediate compliance.
With monsoon conditions expected to continue, the administration has urged people, particularly in flood-prone and hilly areas, to remain vigilant.
